Live at 35: Danny Brown shakes up 35 Denton during Day 3
REVIEW
Ian Jacoby / Views Editor –
It’s rare that a venue and act would blend so harmoniously as Hailey’s Club and Danny Brown did on Saturday night during 35 Denton.
By midnight, most 35 Denton attendees had retreated to the bars to recover from a day of rain and cold.
It felt as if tequila shots and a hanging layer of cigarette smoke washed the sulky dampness that had defined earlier shows away.
It was this transition between two different kinds of dirties that set the stage perfectly for Danny Brown’s performance.
If attendees were unfamiliar with Brown, then his stage appearance might have been a bit shocking. Ladies’ capri-style track pants, a sequined camo-patterned tank top, high-top Adidas shoes and a side-slung emo haircut circa 2005–definitely not your typical “rap-swag.”
But Brown doesn’t perform to meet expectations, so why should his clothes?
The snarling Detroit native brought high energy to a bouncing crowd that couldn’t get enough. Reeling off lyrics like a smirking machine gun, the androgynous Brown aims to rock and offend.
If you leave a Brown concert feeling anything but exhausted and happy, then you probably did it wrong.
