Live Blog: SGA Meeting February 3, 2016

February 03
16:02 2016

This evening, Student Government Association will vote on appointing two new senators from the colleges of music and engineering and a by-law amendment to remove the House of Representatives will be introduced.

The House was removed by student vote last semester from SGA’s  student constitution, but it still needs to be formally removed from their by-laws. The other by-law amendment to be introduced would require College of Engineering senators to be available at Discovery Park, increasing SGA’s presence at the research facility. This will be voted on at a later time.

College of Arts and Science senator Mia Murric will introduce her resolution to increase e-Ride system hours so students have a greater time period to travel safely on the main campus, Discovery Park, Mean Green Village and Victory Hall campuses. Murric worked with the office of Parking and Transportation last semester. The e-Rides currently run from 5 p.m. instead of 9 p.m.

A work session to discuss legislation to be voted on will conclude today’s meeting. This includes a piece by College of Arts and Science senator Aaron Lara proposing an extension of Thanksgiving break from a few days to a full week to allow students living far away more time to travel and stay home. College of Merchandising, Hospitality and Tourism senator Annabelle Weber will introduce a piece that would allow gender-neutral housing on campus.
