Like an enchanted queen of the forest, adorned in a deep emerald feathered dress that stood in stark contrast to her flaming red hair, Florence Welch demanded her audience to have the time of their lives.

She opened with “Only if for a Night,” a big enough hit for both the die-hard and casual fans in the audience.

While her biggest challenge was translating her haunting, pitch perfect studio voice to a sound that resonated in an outside amphitheatre, she nailed every note.

“The Machine” half of her performance was also impeccable. From the backup singers to the harpist to the drummer, every stage jump was right on beat, every musical impact was spine-chilling.

Florence + the Machine’s individual musical talents coalesced into a unifying, inhibition-defying, ego-shattering, bonding experience.

Whether it was Florence’s mesmerizing charisma or evident passion for her craft, everyone in the crowd soon let go of the reserved-cool-kid vibe that accompanies festivals and gave in to the tangible joy emanating from the stage.

At one point, amidst flailing arms and swaying fans, a loud roar erupted during a harp riff and no one left without a grin on his or her face.

The show’s climax, and the epitome of Florence and her machine, was when she brought a green-haired fan on stage, let him kiss one of her stage helpers, stroked his face and said, “It’s not a festival until you stroke glitter from a stranger’s face and wipe it on your own.”

Friday’s second-to-last headliner, Florence + the Machine combined English whimsy, Austin’s weirdness and an undeniable musical talent into a powerhouse show.
