Although the rest of his family works in food service, Denton Camera Exchange owner Armand Kohandani chose a route that took him out of the kitchen.

Growing up in Denton, he originally started working on a taco truck, following in the footsteps of his parents’ local chain, Mi Casita.

As Kohandani grew up and developed an interest in photography, he noticed that the city lacked a quality camera shop that customers could buy, sell and learn new things about the craft.

Kohandani collects numerous camera brands including Polaroid.

In May 2013, Kohandani opened Denton Camera Exchange as a way to give back to the community he grew up in. He chose to plant roots in a Denton shop because he feels that the city made him into the man he is today.

Denton Camera Exchange offers a plethora of equipment sure to wow any camera lover.

Kohandani works mostly in film, so a majority of the store boasts shelves upon shelves of film cameras and accompanying lenses. The shop also carries Polaroids, 8mm film cameras, a small selection of digital gear, bags and accessories.

Most of the cameras inside use film to capture images. Kohandani not only sells film, but will also develop and scan customer’s film.

You can also purchase color and black and white films as well as 8mm movie films in the store.

On top of having a great selection of products, Kohandani also develops and scans film in store for around the same price as online competitors

The camera shop is located at 117 Piner St. and is open 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
