Junior quarterback Mason Fine led North Texas (9-3, 5-3 Conference USA) t0 to a 24-21 victory over the Texas-San Antonio Roadrunners (3-9, 2-6 C-USA) Saturday night. Fine went 26 of 36 on the night, throwing for 320 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception.

North Texas jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter following a 49-yard touchdown reception from Fine to junior Michael Lawrence and a 20-yd field goal from graduate kicker Cole Hedlund.

Lawrence finished the night with three receptions for 69 yards and one touchdown.

Scoring in the second quarter began with a three-yard pass from Fine to redshirt junior tight end Kelvin Smith to put North Texas up 17-0 with 10 minutes left in the first half.

The Roadrunners responded with two rushing touchdowns from freshman running back Brenden Brady and sophomore quarterback Bryce Rivers to decrease North Texas’ lead to 17-14 heading into halftime.

Rivers finished the night 20 of 32 with 269 passing yards, one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown. Brady finished the night with 89 yards on 11 carries and one rushing touchdown.

After the break, sophomore running back DeAndre Torrey scored on a three-yard run for the Mean Green’s final score of the game and Torrey’s 14th rushing touchdown on the season. Torrey finished the game with 155 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown.

An eight-yard pass from Rivers to freshman wide receiver Tariq Woolen put the Roadrunners within three points of the Mean Green, but North Texas’ defense was able to hold on for the remaining eight minutes to win their ninth game of the season.

Redshirt junior wide receiver Jalen Guyton led the Mean Green in receiving yards on the night with five receptions and 78 yards. Senior linebacker E.J. Ejiya led the defense on the night with 11 total tackles, two sacks and four tackles a loss.

Senior wide receiver Glenn Campbell Jr. caught 11 passes for 186 receiving yards and zero touchdowns for the Roadrunners.

The Mean Green — who are bowl eligible — finished the regular season with nine wins for the second season in a row for the first time this century. North Texas will await its bowl placement, which will be announced on Sunday, Dec. 2.

Texas-San Antonio concludes their season, missing out on bowl eligibility for the second straight year.
