Not only did the Mean Green lose to Middle Tennessee State University 38-21 today, the team’s top receiver will miss the remainder of the season due to an injury sustained in the first quarter.

Junior receiver Brelan Chancellor broke his collarbone on the first play of the game and will no longer be able to help UNT on the field this season. His 598 total yards and seven total touchdowns led the team.

From the first play of the game and on, the Mean Green was without its top two receivers on the year. Senior Ivan Delgado, who has a team-leading 32 receptions and 453 receiving yards, had been suspended earlier today for unknown reasons.

Last season the Mean Green lit up the Middle Tennessee defense in a 59-7 victory. On Saturday, the Blue Raiders (5-3, 3-1) returned the favor, downing UNT (3-5, 2-2).The contest became a one-sided game rather quickly, as MTSU redshirt junior quarterback Logan Kilgore threw two touchdown passes in the first eight minutes of the game.

Before the end of the quarter, MTSU would add a field goal to make it 17-0. In the last three games, the Mean Green (3-5, 2-2) has been outscored 40-0 in the first quarter.

MTSU added another touchdown in the second quarter to make it 24-0 lead at halftime, marking the only time that the Mean Green had been held scoreless through a half this season.

At the start of the second half, the Blue Raiders would add another touchdown, putting the Mean Green down 31-0, the largest deficit faced so far the season.

On the following drive, UNT drove the ball for 73 yards, capping it off with a two-yard touchdown run by redshirt freshman running back Antoinne Jimmerson.

Kilgore quickly answered for MTSU with a 45-yard touchdown run of his own on the next drive.UNT redshirt junior quarterback Derek Thompson then led the team on an 8-play, 80-yard drive where he found freshman wide receiver Carlos Harris for a 13-yard touchdown.
The Mean Green’s final score came in the fourth quarter, when Jimmerson ran for another touchdown, making the score 38-21.
