Mean Green soccer focuses on single weekend match

The Mean Green soccer team is set to take on the University of Tulsa in a Conference USA match. So far this season, the Mean Green has a Conference USA record of 3-2-1 after winning two conference games last weekend.
“It puts a lot less pressure on us and puts us back up on top of our division, so it helps a lot because being on the road is tougher,” freshman midfielder Allison Harper said.
The Golden Hurricanes (9-4-1) currently have a conference record of 3-1-1 after its first loss of conference play to Colorado College last Saturday, falling 2-0.
While the Mean Green (9-5-1) usually plays two games over the weekend – one Friday and one Sunday – this weekend holds some relief for the team with just a single Friday game. One less game to worry about means the team will have a less demanding weekend.
“We still have to work harder during practice and everything,” freshman forward Rachel Holden said. “I think it is easier since we just have our game on Friday we can give 100 percent and not have to worry about Sunday.”
With both loses in the conference coming on the road, there is some pressure for the team to play up its standard. Head coach John Hedlund said this game could help the team in that aspect.
“We could always bring back the fact that we beat [University of Oklahoma] and [Texas Christian University] on the road and Tulsa is very similar to those two teams,” head coach John Hedlund said. “We have that kind of experience to win on the road.”
The game will be played at 7 p.m. on Friday in Tulsa, Okla.
