The Mean Green softball team went 2-3 in its opening tournament of the season this past week in Denton.

North Texas split the first day of the North Texas Invitational on Feb. 6, losing 2-1 to Seton Hall University, but beating Texas Southern University 10-6.

Junior utility player Taylor Schoblocher conquered the field in the second game against Texas Southern, when she hit two home runs to put North Texas in the lead for the rest of the game. Schoblocher had six home runs and 12 RBI in the tournament.

North Texas beat  Boise State University 14-4 for its first game in five innings. But North Texas was bested by Seton Hall again in its second game on Saturday, losing 17-6.

North Texas saw Boise State again in the final game of the tournament on Sunday. Boise State took an early lead from the first inning at 3-0. Mean Green head coach Tracey Kee was ejected at the bottom of the fourth for arguing with an umpire. Boise State ended up winning the game 10-3.

Kee said she sees great things for her team this spring even though it lost the tournament.

“I can’t ask more from this offense. They’re putting runs up,” Kee said. “They’re not kicking the ball around. We’re playing air-free ball.”

Next up, North Texas will play in the ASU Littlewood Classic in Tempe, Arizona from Friday to Sunday.
