Mean Green tennis drops third in a row, loses to South Florida 4-2
The Mean Green tennis team lost its third match in a row Thursday, making it their first home loss on the season. Up until this game, the Mean Green were 6-0 in home matches.
This match was a chance to bounce back for the Mean Green. In the two games prior they had lost in each match 4-3 losing in the final singles match. The Mean Green ended up losing another tight set 4-2, but head coach Sujay Lama liked the effort from his team.
“We battled, we put ourselves in positions to win these matches, it’s a learning process,” Lama said. “Like I told the girls, our fight is great and we’re battling during matches.”
The doubles point has been important this season for the Mean Green because they have won every contest where they scored the doubles point. Lama sees the importance as well.
“We just need to start finishing off doubles points to get us started on the right foot because we can’t keep putting ourselves in holes like that,” Lama said.
South Florida took the first two doubles matches and secured the doubles point before the third doubles match was over.
The Mean Green players who secured a point were freshman Hala Khaled Badwy and junior Nidhi Surapaneni. Surapaneni, who won her last four singles matches including this one.
North Texas has lost the doubles point in their last three matches. They will get a chance to change that Saturday when they host Memphis who is coming off a win versus Missouri.
