Mean Green vs. FIU: Second Half

Mean Green vs. FIU: Second Half

October 16
18:23 2010

Some observations from halftime: Lady Gaga should not be played at football games. I mean this game is already bad enough… I’m pretty sure half of the fans have left, and I don’t blame them… Zombie Nation and Jump Around came on over the PA system. There were like five people scattered here and there attempting to get crunk. It was a cute attempt.

13:44 Q3: Three n’ out on the first drive of the second half for the Mean Green. That’s getting really repetitive. FIU will start its first drive on its own 40. 1st-and-10. Either UNT gets in it, or both teams just run the ball the remainder of the game.

I think I just realized that the band is playing a new song. Yep, it’s “Somebody Told Me”  by The Killers. Easily the highlight of my night.

12:18 Q3: FIU stalls on its opening drive as well, and that’s only because Hilton dropped a sure-fire touchdown. UNT takes over on its 12. 1st-and-10.

11:36 Q3: The Golden Panthers will get the ball after another UNT drive that is stuck in park. Since we can’t really swap transmissions, you can just hope that the shifter can get free. 1st-and-10 at the FIU 20.

10:19 Q3: North Texas forces a three-and-out, getting the ball on its own 30. I hope somebody can move the ball. Stagnant offenses just prolong the game. At this point in the game, that’s not the mission here.

9:46 Q3: This time, a three-and-out gets interesting. Atterberry gets pummeled on a punt, resulting in a roughing the kicker penalty on FIU. Atterberry is still down from the hit, and it does not look like he’s getting up anytime soon. This might be the end of his season. I hope not.

Yep, the stretcher is out on the field. Jonathan Faucher is the one responsible for the loss of UNT’s punter…Atterberry was sitting up as he was taken off the field. He did manage to throw up the Eagle Claw. At least he’s still got his school spirit, something that  can’t be said for the rest of this school.

It was just announced that Atterberry suffered a fractured left arm. Meanwhile, UNT is driving and within striking distance. Stay tuned.

7:48 Q3: Zach Olen misses a 33-yard field goal, his first miss of the year. Darius Carey was the holder on the kick after Atterberry was knocked out the game. Couldn’t tell if it was a bad hold.

3:47  Q3: FIU slowly crept down the field, eventually adding to the lead and sending more Mean Green fans back home. Kendrick Rhodes takes the ball in the end zone on a three-yard touchdown run. The Golden Panthers ran the no-huddle on that drive. As to why they did that, I have no earthly idea. I mean they were up by 24 points. FIU 34, North Texas 3.

3:40 Q3: UNT takes over at its 26. I’m bored. Can’t you tell? 1st-and-10.

Candidate for best name in the Sun Belt: Jose Cheeseborough. I’m suddenly craving McDonald’s.

1:43 Q3: UNT can’t getting anything going on offense, punting the ball to FIU. I think I might just copy and paste that for the rest of the night. Save my fingers from doing unnecessary work. 1st-and-10 at the FIU 23.

0:28 Q3: FIU punts. UNT 1st-and10 at its 14.

The third quarter is finally over. That took a day and a half to get over with. Now just another 15 minutes of game clock. This one’s over, so the fourth quarter is pretty irrelevant. If you’re reading, drop a comment. Make it clever, because I need something to keep me awake during this game.

14:06 Q4: Trent Deans punts in lieu of Atterberry. It was a pretty good punt. FIU takes over at its 16. I would say something mean, but that would be too easy.

12:27 Q4: North Texas gets the ball back after a short FIU drive that went nowhere. Students left= students that saw UNT-UTA ultimate Frisbee game last year.

10:50 Q4: Finally, something to keep me from falling asleep. Instead of punting, the Mean Green fake it. Craig Robertson takes the direct snap 65 yards to the FIU 9.  I vote to put Craig at running back. That could be fun to watch. And he earns a touchdown for all he does on defense. 1st-and-10.

10:24 Q4: Lance Dunbar scores UNT’s first touchdown of the game on a 9-yard run. Dunbar gives UNT an excuse to fire that loud and annoying cannon. FIU 34, North Texas 10.

10:16 Q4: After a kickoff by Olen, FIU will take over on its own 37. 1st-and-10.

8:39 Q4: UNT will get the ball after shutting down FIU. At one point it was 3rd-and-44. Ouch.

New best highlight of the night. The band started a wave within the band. I think I’m watching a 4A football game.

7:15 Q4: The Mean Green went for it on 4th-and-6, which meant that Chase Baine gets sacked again. 1st-and-10 at the UNT 47.

4:39 Q4: FIU just went for it on 4th-and-10 at the UNT 10. Why? I have no idea. Mario Cristobal, what are you doing?

3:51 Q4: Well, at this point in the game, I’m going to head down to the locker room to get quotes, and nothing relevant is going to happen from here on out. That’s another loss in the right-hand column.
