North Texas men’s basketball will be playing in the College Basketball Invitational which starts on Mar. 13 and includes 16 teams, non of which are from Power 5 conferences.

The Mean Green open with the University of South Dakota on Mar. 14 at 8 p.m. which will be at South Dakota’s home court where the Coyotes are 13-1 this season.

South Dakota finished the season 26-8 and finished second in the Summit League with an 11-3 record and made it to the championship in the conference tournament.

North Texas finished the season 15-17 and 8-10 in Conference USA, good for the seventh seed. The Mean Green lost in the first round of the conference tournament to Louisiana Tech University on Wednesday and were 5-10 on the road this season.

North Texas will also most likely be without the two senior forwards Shane Temara and Bryce Jackson according to a source close to the team.

The second round of the tournament is to be determined as far as location and time goes, but the winner of South Dakota and North Texas faces the winner of Mercer and Grand Canyon who play on Mar. 14 at 10 p.m.
