The Mean Green men’s basketball team suffered a last second 76-74 loss to the University of North Carolina at Charlotte 49ers Saturday night in Charlotte.
UNT (10-8,1-3) struggled in the beginning of the game when the team found itself down 10-4 in the first few minutes of the game, but the team would keep the game in reach. The Mean Green entered halftime trailing 40-37.
The offense began to click in the second half for UNT as the team took a 51-43 lead in the first two minutes, but the lead would constantly go back and forth from there. The 49ers (12-5, 3-1) slowly shaved away the Mean Green lead.
With 36 seconds remaining and the score tied at 74, the Mean Green failed to take advantage of its chance to take the lead. The 49ers instead would capitalize on its last shot and junior guard Terrence Williams made the game-winning shot to get Charlotte the win.
Senior guard Brandan Walton led the team with 13 points in the loss to Charlotte, while the team’s leading scorer Alzee Williams was held to just four points.
the Mean Green can bounce back from the loss at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Super Pit against the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
