No injuries reported after car strikes student biker on Union Circle

A student riding his bike to class was struck by a car near the Union Wednesday morning.
A grey Nissan struck fashion merchandising sophomore Shawn Smallets on Union Circle. Smallets was hit when the driver pulled into a parking spot along the drop-off area behind the Union.
He walked away from the incident with a few scratches on his face.
“Everything is cool,” Smallets said. “No one is hurt. Her car doesn’t look too banged up.”
After the incident, the driver hugged Smallets. History sophomore Trey Castillo, a witness at the scene, said the driver was weeping.
“She was kind of losing it,” Smallets said. “She was more upset about the whole situation [than] I was.”
Three police vehicles, an ambulance and a fire truck responded to the incident.
“We just saw a guy laying on the floor with paramedics all around him,” Castillo said.
“You don’t really think about that stuff happening all the time, people getting hit on campus,” Smallets said.
