CBS Sports handed out its Best in College Sports rankings, which uses a formula to compare and rank 122 college athletic programs. And North Texas is at dead last, No. 122.

The No. 1 spot went to Ohio State, largely due to a football national title.

The CBS Sports Best in College Sports rankings use a formula that rates five sports. Generally the sports that have the biggest fan following and media presence.

The five sports analyzed are football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball and a wild card.

The wild-card spot was the school’s most successful team out of softball, men’s lacrosse, men’s ice hockey, men’s soccer, wrestling, volleyball, women’s soccer or women’s gymnastics.

National titles carry the heaviest point values, but the system awarded points down a chain of accomplishments in each sport.

Ohio State led the way with 550 total points, 300 of which were earned by their national championship in football.

Any championship settled by a bracket was given a point total based on the amount of teams in the bracket. Duke’s national title in men’s basketball, the largest bracket-style tournament, was worth 200 points.

The champions in the other sports received 100 points for a national title.

Conference USA did not fair well as a whole, with three teams even in the top half of the rankings, and six teams ranking No.100 or lower.

University of Alabama at Birmingham was the highest ranked C-USA team at No. 58, with 155 total points.

North Texas was joined by six other schools, including C-USA foe, University of Texas at San Antonio, in a tie for last place with zero points accumulated across the board.
