UNT President Neal Smatresk hit two people with his SUV on Thursday, Dec. 10 after leaving a shopping center on Teasley Lane in Denton, according to a police report.

The pedestrians were taken to Denton Regional Medical Center with “non-incapacitating injuries,” the document states. Smatresk was allowed to leave the scene in his car.

No traffic violations were issued, according to the Denton Record-Chronicle, which first reported the accident.

The accident occurred around 9:19 p.m. Dec. 10 during finals week. Smatresk had a green light and was turning left out of the shopping center at 1776 Teasley Lane when he hit the pedestrians.

Denton police spokesman Ryan Grelle, when asked, said he was unaware if police have found that intersection a routinely problematic one for pedestrian safety.

The responding Denton police officer did not test Smatresk or the pedestrians for drugs or alcohol, the police report read.

The businesses open in the shopping center at the time of the accident were Double Dave’s pizza, Aces Tattoos, a liquor store and Vitty’s Sports Bar.

Smatresk has not been available for comment. The condition of the alleged victims is unknown at this time.
