North Texas women’s basketball team (9-10, 3-4 Conference USA) was able to pick up their third conference win on the road against in-state rival Texas-San Antonio (6-11, 2-3 C-USA) with the final being 79-55. The 24-point victory over the Roadrunners was North Texas’ largest margin of victory since beginning conference play.

Transfer-student Summer Jones had a career-high 21 points on 8-for-12 shooting in the victory over the Roadrunners and senior-post Anisha George tallied her sixth double-double of the season with 18 points and 12 rebounds. The win moved North Texas head coach Jalie Mitchell to second all-time in wins in program history.

“There’s not a lot to complain about today,” Mitchell said. “We executed really well. I’m really proud of our rebounding [and] our 20 assists. Definitely a game we would like to build on heading into Saturday.”

The Mean Green started the game off with an 11-2 run, while the Roadrunners hit a total of two field goals in the opening period. While the Roadrunners had a 7-2 run in the quarter, North Texas quickly responded and finished the first half with a 12 point lead.

The second half provided more of the same as the Mean Green began the third quarter with a 12-3 run. The Roadrunners attempted to give themselves a chance in the final period after trailing by 21. They managed to cut the lead to 15, however, North Texas maintained it’s lead and finished the game with a wide scoring margin.

North Texas had two additional players score in double-digits on Thursday including freshman point guard N’Yah Boyd who put in 13 points, seven rebounds and six assists and Randi Thompson who contributed 11.

UP NEXT: The Mean Green will head to the next in-state rival in El Paso, Texas to take on UTEP (11-5, 4-1 C-USA).
