After dropping four straight games, North Texas’ women’s basketball (8-10, 2-4 Conference USA) was able to close out Louisiana Tech (9-7, 1-4 C-USA) in overtime at home on Saturday by a score of 74-69.

“I’m really proud of our team for this one,” head coach Jalie Mitchell said.

The win followed four consecutive losses in which the Mean Green had chances to win down the stretch of all four games, and they almost extended that streak to five games as the Lady Techsters held a one-point lead with about five seconds remaining.

However, senior post player Anisha George scored two of her team-high 22-points, to give North Texas the lead with 1.7 seconds remaining on the clock.

The Lady Techsters had a chance at the win as North Texas was called for a foul on the Lady Techsters’ last-second shot attempt in which Amber Dixon, an 85 percent free-throw shooter, went 1-for-2 from the line to send the game into overtime.

“I thought we handled overtime extremely well,” Mitchell said. “I thought every possession that we were set up on getting a bucket, we got what we needed.”

North Texas began overtime with a 5-0 run to force the Lady Techsters’ to call a timeout in which they responded with their own run to tie the game back up.

“I think from a game management aspect, we did a lot of things right,” Mitchell said.

The Mean Green proceeded to complete the rest of the game with the lead and eventually led to their first win in five games.

North Texas’ freshmen guards N’Yah Boyd and Randi Thompson scored 15 points and nine points, respectively good to combine for 9-for-19 shooting.

George also contributed nine boards and a key rebound down the stretch with 22 seconds remaining to her team-leading 22 points scoring.

UP NEXT: North Texas will travel down Interstate 35 to take on Texas-San Antonio.
