“Riddick” is much better than the calamity that was “The Chronicles of Riddick” due to its more imaginative world and action sequences. These films are incredibly “ridiculous” on their own, but at times, you will be able to coast along with the absurd nature of the film.

This marks the third installment in the “Chronicles of Riddick” series. This time Riddick (Vin Diesel) is betrayed by the violent religious empire known as the Necromongers and is left for dead on a desolate planet. With little resources other than his keen survival skills, he must thrive by any means necessary while being pursued by a man from his past and a hoard of lethal alien predators.

There are a few quiet moments of suspense in the film, but the only interesting story line comes from Riddick’s companionship with an alien dingo and his ongoing battle with the antagonist, Boss Johns (Matt Nable).

By the end of the film, you will realize that the character Riddick is poorly developed and has very little character traits that can distinguish him as the iconic character the filmmakers make him out to be. You can’t really expect much from a film when the top billed actor prefers to be called Vin Diesel.

“Riddick” is in theaters today.
