One of the great things about “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints,” a film that follows an outlaw (an excellent Casey Affleck) as he escapes from prison and sets out across the Texas hills to reunite with his wife (Rooney Mara) and the daughter he has never met, is the visual control that writer-director David Lowery applies to the story. His use of clapping music embeds alluring images in our minds. While the film may not be for everyone, as it moves at an old Western-like pace, it’s an astonishing poem filled with love, tragedy and impressive performances. The North Texas Daily had a chance to sit down and talk with Dallas-native filmmaker Lowery about “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” and film school.
