Another meet, another record breaking performance for North Texas track and field, which competed in a split-squad meet Thursday and Friday at the Bryan Clay Invitational and Mt. SAC Relays in California.

At the Bryan Clay Invitational, the Mean Green were led by senior Bryce McAndrew who broke a 33-year-old North Texas record.

McAndrew’s record time of 14:06.07 in the 5000-meter on Thursday broke North Texas alum Ron Wakefield’s previous school-best time set in 1983. The time was good enough for 10th place.

The men’s 5k at the Bryan Clay Invitational also saw an outdoor personal best time of 14:40.45 by senior James Coleman. Junior Grady Frazier set his own personal best time of 14:49.26.

Sophomore Christina Moralez ran a personal best time of 17:43.37 in the women’s 5k. The time ranks as the fifth best time in school history. Senior Susie Kemper also posted a career best time of 4:33.66 in the women’s 1500-meter. Kemper’s time is the fourth best in North Texas history.

At the Mt. SAC Relays, sophomore Mike Lowe set a career best time of 30:33.63 in the men’s 10k. Lowe’s time is the third best in school history and the best time in five years at North Texas. Lowe placed 28th in the event.

Senior Troy Taylor closed out the Mt. SAC Relays with a 15th place finish in the men’s 1500-meter with a time of 3:46.37.

The Mean Green will join up with the rest of the track and field team next Saturday in Norman, Oklahoma to compete in the John Jacobs Invitational.
