The UNT men’s golf team continued its success this season by taking second place in the team tournament that took place from Oct. 14 until tonight in San Antonio. Senior Rodolfo Cazaubon also won the overall tournament by shooting a 4-under par (-4).
Cazaubon shot a 68, 70 and 74 in the three rounds to win the individual championship, making it the second straight tournament in which he finished as the top player. Two weeks ago at the Shoal Creek Invitational, Cazaubon tied for first place in the tournament.
The Mean Green team went into the final day with the lead, but finished with the day’s third best score of 3-over par (+3). The No. 46 University of Houston posted a 13-under par final round (-13) to overcome UNT and win the Lone Star Invitational.
As a team, UNT had scores of 284, 295, and 291 over the three-day span totaling to 6-over par (+6).
This marks the third time in four tournaments this year that the team has finished in the top-three of a tournament.
Senior Carlos Ortiz also finished in a four-way tie for second place after the three rounds with a 69, 75 and 70 equaling out to a 2-under par (-2).
The Mean Green will have to wait until Feb. 11when the team goes back to San Antonio for the Oak Hills Invitational to play in the spring season.
