Seven Mile Cafe serves up healthy meals
Suzy Townsend / Intern
Tucked away from the traffic of the main streets of Denton is a little house-turned-café with a welcoming staff and unique breakfast selection.
Seven Mile Cafe, located on W. Congress Street, offers a variety of breakfast and lunch options at a reasonable price.
The inside is neatly decorated with electric guitars and some paintings from amateur artists. Every month the café invites a local artist to showcase their work on its walls.
Although the house looks old, the inside is very modern, with nice wooden tables and bright lighting.
The staff consists of young Dentonites who are friendly and attentive without being overbearing.
The shop has an in-house espresso bar and offers any desired espresso drink or house coffee.
All coffee brewed at the café is from Austin, Texas, and 12 oz. bags are sold at the bar.
If you come with a group or another person you can order a carafe to split for $6, although the house coffee tastes a bit bitter.
Lattes are served in large mugs decorated with coffee-themed art.
The café offers healthy breakfast choices including granola, oatmeal and an assortment of benedicts including chicken, apple and sausage, vegetable and ahi tuna.
The benedict dishes are very filling. The prices range from about $6 to $12 a plate, and the portions are pretty big.
The café accommodates those who have a gluten allergy, offering to make any of the dishes gluten-free with a $1 charge. The restaurant also has a variety of vegan choices including tofu, vegan cheese and pancakes.
Since the café is a breakfast and brunch shop, it is only open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The lunch menu consists of vegetarian options such as the black bean burger, veggie melt and salads, as well as sandwiches and soups.
The café also tries to be environmentally conscious and uses only cage-free eggs and recyclable coffee cups.
Overall, the Seven Mile Cafe is a hip, cozy spot to sip some espresso while enjoying a healthy, tasteful breakfast, especially for those who are vegan, vegetarian or looking for gluten-free choices.
