UPDATE:

Troy Elliott was released from Denton City Jail at 5:20 p.m. today after paying a $300 fine for an outstanding arrest warrant.

Elliott said police executed a warrant for his arrest late Thursday and informed Elliott of his outstanding fine for an unpaid ticket for driving without a license.

Police informed Elliott of two other outstanding fines, one for not having valid insurance at the time of an accident he was involved in December 2013.

Elliott said he was unaware of the warrant because of a change of address, so he missed his court date.

“I do take full responsibility for that poor representation of the school and what this entire thing has meant,” Elliott said. “Being the president elect, I owe an apology to the university population and the [SGA] organization.”

Elliott has 30 days to pay the remaining two fines.

Original post:

SGA president-elect Troy Elliott, 21, was arrested shortly after midnight Friday by Denton Police.

Elliott, a general, choral and instrumental music sophomore, was charged with driving without a valid license and driving without a valid insurance policy.

According to the Denton Police website, Elliott remains in Denton City jail in lieu of $1,363 bond.

Elliott was elected as SGA president for the 2014-2015 academic school year on March 27.

In a brief phone call, SGA vice president-elect Kamaeron Willard said that SGA was aware and that the situation was being taken care of.

UPDATE 1: Denton Police PIO Ryan Grelle confirmed that Elliott was still in custody. He said Elliott was fully cooperative during his arrest last night.
