SGA simulates wreck for drunk driving awareness

Greek Life and various UNT departments put on a major spectacle Thursday night on Avenue E between Highland Street and Eagle Drive to raise awareness for drunk driving. SGA president Zachary Brown estimated more than 1,000 people attended the speaking event, held earlier in the Coliseum.
Hundreds of students stayed behind to watch the simulated wreck play out.
Finance senior Aaron Presley, playing the drunk driver of the F-150, follows the light with his eyes during a field sobriety test.

Denton-based B&O Towing provided a grey Honda Accord and a white Ford F-150 for the simulation.
Firefighters begin to take off the windshield of the Ford.
The impact. A body double on the ground acts as a victim of the crash.
Hospitality management junior Carlee Niemeyer, a passenger in the Honda, lies dead from the simulated collision.
The damage to the Honda’s front end.
Theatre arts sophomore Sahara Ale, a passenger in the Ford, released strained, guttural screams on her stretcher.
A helicopter was called to care flight Ale out of the scene to receive help.
Fire fighters had to peel off the F-150’s roof to retrieve a final passenger, a crash test dummy.
After tacking off the roof firefighters begin to work on getting the remaining test dummy victim out of the truck.
Fire fighters lay the dummy next to Niemeyer on the road.
UNT flags will wave at half-mast Friday in honor of all students who may have been lost to drunk driving wrecks.
