Impeachment petition update:
Senator Shamaal Fletcher, who was not in attendance at Wednesday’s meeting, said in an email he has 802 of the required 1,000 signatures for his petition to impeach president Zach Brown and vice president Anthony Brown. He said he expects to reach 1,000 by Friday night, at which point he will submit the petition to SGA advisor Melissa McGuire.
Tonight’s meeting:
Student Government Association could not reach a quorum, and had to table a referendum that would have charged students $5 per semester for a fund for classroom innovation.
Student body president Zachary Brown said SGA will try to push it through during their March 5 meeting, and encouraged student attendance because he expects a large discussion and, if passed, the issue will go to a student vote.
“That’s the day we need every senator to be on deck,” Brown said.
SGA also appointed four senators, including communication studies senior and former student body president Rodolfo Reynoso. The appointments bring the senate up to 34 of 45 seats filled. Brown said they expect to appoint more senators next meeting.
Reynoso is in a unique position, having served before as the SGA president and currently serving on the Board of Regents. Reynoso said he would take steps to improve advising, particularly as a graduating senior.
