After losing two road matchups last weekend, the Mean Green soccer team looks to get back on track this weekend at home against University of Texas-San Antonio (3-9-1) on Friday and University of North Carolina at Charlotte (7-4-1) on Sunday.

“We’ve never played Charlotte and it has been a long time since we played UTSA,” head coach John Hedlund said. “It’s more about us and what we do and making sure that we bring our A-game.”

UNT (7-5-1) looks to improve its sixth-ranked spot in the Conference USA West Division, especially playing in-state rival UTSA. The Mean Green also played in-state Rice University on the road in a 4-0 loss earlier this year.

“UTSA’s going to want to beat us because we’re new in conference,” senior defender Kelsey Hodges said. “We’re both in Texas and recruiting in the same area.”

The game against UTSA will also carry more meaning because it is the Mean Green’s senior night.

“It’s going to be a hard night with it being our last Friday night home game,” senior defender Allison Guderian said. “I know the younger girls look up to us and so I know they will want to get that win for us.”

The Mean Green doesn’t have much experience with Charlotte, its opponent on Sunday, who is second in the C-USA East standings.

“We don’t know much about them, but we know they are a good team and winning on our home field is the best thing we can do right now,” Hodges said.

The team knows that picking up these two wins is crucial. After the weekend’s home games, three of the final four games are on the road.

“You got teams that are very good and everyone’s looking for points, and we got senior night on Friday which is important not just to the seniors but the team,” Hedlund said. “Winning Friday night is huge for us.
