Already on a three-game losing streak, the Mean Green visited Mobile, Ala., over the weekend to take on the No. 23 South Alabama Jaguars only to come back empty handed.

Saturday

Game one of the series became a late inning nail biter that ended in a 3-2 victory for USA (37-7, 13-3) but head coach T.J. Hubbard said he was pleased to see the team’s ability to drive in runs late in the game.

“We certainly had our chances and our opportunities,” Hubbard said. “We did finally get some runs on the board, but it did prove to be a little too late.”

The Jaguars got the lift from sophomore utility player Blair Johnson as she led off the bottom of the seventh with a walk off home run.

UNT (18-19, 6-9) left seven runners on base in the game.

Following the one-run game, the Jaguars stormed to a 12-2 victory in game two.

“It felt like we put a different team out there for game two,” junior pitcher Ashley Kirk said. “I don’t think that they outplayed us or anything and that it wasn’t that we didn’t come out and play our hardest. To be honest I don’t know how each game had such a different result. I can’t explain it.”

Sunday

For the third time in the last four road trips, The Mean Green dealt with the wrath of Mother Nature as the final game of the series was cancelled for poor weather conditions.

There will be no rescheduling for the game.

Baylor

Next, the Mean Green faces the No. 20 Baylor University Bears (33-10).

If UNT had played last week’s game against the University of Oklahoma. the BU matchup would be the third straight game or series where UNT would face a top 25 team.

UNT has failed to score more than two runs in each of its past five games.

“We have to change our approach at the plate,” junior infielder Brooke Foster said. “We need to become more disciplined.”

The doubleheader will take place at Lovelace Stadium. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. with the second game beginning directly after.
