North Texas swimming and diving had a chance for a school best dual-meet record by getting its first win in program history against Southern Methodist University, but fell short 132-109 after 13 events. The loss drops the Mean Green’s record against the Mustangs to 0-15 all-time.

North Texas mounted a comeback over halfway through the meet, getting three first-place finishes in the final six events. Junior Samantha Scheck won twice and the freshman duo of Rebekah Bradley and Sara Whelan also earned one win each. But after losing the first five events, the effort was too little too late.

Scheck tripled her win total after getting two wins in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive to get her third win of the season. Her 235.72 score in the 1-meter dive set a personal best for the junior.

Rebekah Bradley, the reigning Conference-USA Swimmer of the Week, finished first in the 200-backstroke with a personal best 1:58.03 time on the way to her ninth win over the past four meets. The freshman fell short of her tenth win of the season earlier in the event being edged out by .04 in the 50-freestyle.

Whelan kicked it up a notch in the final 50 of the 500-freestryle to close out a first-place finish. She finished third earlier in the night.

North Texas gets a chance for redemption tomorrow against SMU and Oklahoma Baptist University for pre-conference time trials at Mansfield Natatorium. The event begins at 2 p.m.
