In the previous four meetings, the No. 22 University of Tulsa has had the Mean Green’s number, so UNT is looking for a chance at revenge against the Golden Hurricane and Wichita State University this weekend at the Waranch Tennis Complex.

In the last two seasons, future Conference USA foe Tulsa (9-4, 1-0) has defeated UNT, 6-1. In the 2008-2009 season, UNT (7-3, 2-0) lost to the Golden Hurricane 7-0 and again 4-2 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. Sophomore Kseniya Bardabush said that a player never forgets a loss.

“We just have to practice and just get ready to fight,” Bardabush said. “We lost 1-6 last year so we are going to fight for this win.”

UNT is coming off a win over the University of Miami (Ohio) last weekend after dropping back-to-back matches the two games prior.

“I think that the back-to-back losses won’t have an effect,” head coach Sujay Lama said. “We lost to some great teams, but I always believe that you are building your character.”

After a weekend of playing tennis indoors against Georgia Tech University and Miami, UNT will be at home on the outdoor court in Denton.

“There is no easy match,” Lama said. “The key is to continue learning and developing and use the matches as a stepping stone to elevate the team and that’s what they did. That’s what we do.”

Senior team captain Barbora Vykydalova pulled a muscle in her leg against Miami but is still looking forward to this weekend’s matches.

“We fight hard for each other,” Vykydalova said. “We play for our teammates, so that’s what we will do again.”

When the teams met up last year the Shockers beat UNT, 4-3, and the Mean Green followed that loss with 12 straight wins.

As of now WSU has a 5-7 record, but it plays Texas Christian University – which defeated UNT earlier this season – tomorrow in Fort Worth before playing UNT on Sunday.
