Texas has issues: Your state’s week in review
Sugar Land, Texas got the name from a sugar plantation, but if a sleazy dating site got their way, the community might have sported a slightly different title.
Sugardaddie.com, a romance site intended to match wealthy singles, offered the city $500,000 this week to take the website’s name for ten years.
The town’s mayor rejected the offer like a bad pick-up line, but it’s unclear whether it was on principle or just because the site lowballed him.
Our advice: come back with a few million and try again. We want postcards from the city of Sugardaddie.com.
A man from Weatherford, Texas filed a lawsuit against Six Flags this week after the theme park kicked him off the “Aquaman Splashdown” ride for having no hands.
Yes, that’s right. The plaintiff, Clint Bench, was born without hands, and this fact hasn’t stopped him from attending college, getting married and raising a family.
But Six Flags had other ideas, citing vague safety regulations and refusing to let Bench ride. He’s suing them for an alleged violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
We don’t know if the lawsuit will stick, but if you can keep up with kids and write college essays without hands, we think Six Flags should cut you a break.
According to a new report from the National Insurance Crime Bureau, tailgate theft is on the rise in Texas. Between 2006 and 2012, more than 450 tailgates were stolen off trucks in the state.
Why tailgates? Apparently they’re the easiest truck part to remove and carry, and each tailgate can be sold online or to parts dealers for hundreds of dollars.
Who knew? It can cost up to $1,000 to get one replaced, so we suggest keeping an eye on your tail if you roll in a rig.
Waxahachie, Texas is about to put on some weight. This year, the restaurant chain Jake’s Wayback Burger will open a location in the city, but you should probably start jogging right now, because this joint’s menu could do a number on your heart.
Their most famous burger, the “Triple-Triple,” sports nine beef patties and enough cheese to cover them. This meat monster weighs in at 5,100 calories, which is equal to about forty-five apples, or nearly four large pepperoni pizzas.
The question is, has anyone tried to order it with bacon?
