Atlas Genius first caught the attention of American listeners with “Trojans,” the single off of their first full-length album, When It Was Now, released in 2013.

Since then, there has been much anticipation about the band’s newly released Inanimate Objects and it’s safe to say fans will not be let down. Australian brothers, Keith and Michael Jeffrey, sewed together 11 songs, each having something to offer every listener.

“Molecules,” the first single on the album, starts off as an 80’s-esque pop song and quickly gains modern credibility and has listeners dancing when the vocals come in and the chorus hits. But that’s not the only catchy beat found on the duo’s most recent album.

Songs like “Refugees” and “The City We Grow” will have even the most reserved listeners bobbing their heads along by the time the track ends, not to their disappointment.

But, there are slower and softer tracks to provide a comfortable balance.

“Balladino,” driven by an intensified drumbeat, gives listeners inspiration to get through a situation with lyrics like, “I believe that there is light up ahead/I can see it through the words that you said.”

The closing track, “Levitate” is the most diverse from the rest of the album, opening with just an acoustic guitar and vocals that feel like a modern-day The Beatles song.

Many fans may have been worried that Atlas Genius would suffer a sophomoric slump, as countless artists have done in the past, but with one listen to Inanimate Objects, the fear will fade away.
