The Dose: Spider-Man to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe

In a report released tonight, Marvel announced plans to co-produce the future of the Spider-Man film franchise, beginning with an appearance by Spidey in an undisclosed upcoming Marvel Studios Film.
In what will presumably be “Captain America: Civil War,” the web-swinger will then star in his own film on July 28, 2017, as part of a new creative direction from Marvel Cinematic Universe mastermind Kevin Feige.
“The new relationship follows a decade of speculation among fans about whether Spider-Man – who has always been an integral part of the larger Marvel Universe in the comic books – could become part of the Marvel Universe on the big screen,” the press release said.
There is no word yet on if the new film or appearances will feature current Spidey Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker. If Marvel is looking for a brand new direction, it may be best to finish out Garfield’s story and introduce Miles Morales, a half-black, half-Latino Spider-Man made popular by the Ultimate series of comic books. The Spider-Man movie franchise is worth $4 billion, and now it is in the proper hands.
One thing is certain: it’s good to have Spidey back home.
