The lowdown in Lil’ D: Sept. 16 – Sept. 22

Tuesday
8-10 p.m.
The music department will have a free jazz faculty recital. The recital is open to the public, inside Kenton Hall at the Music Building.
8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Learn more about Victorian literature and see rare first editions from the Vann Victorian Collection Exhibit. The exhibit is at Willis Library in the Judge Sarah T. Hughes Special Collections Reading Room on the fourth floor. The exhibit is open to the public during regular business hours until Jan. 9.
Wednesday
6-8 p.m.
UPC will host a free open mic poetry night at Bruce Concert Hall. Here’s an opportunity to bare your soul in front of random strangers. Just go for it.
Thursday
5-7:30 p.m.
Join the community in North Texas Giving Day. For one day, Denton will have a station set up on the Square where people can make a donation to 83 nonprofit organizations in Denton. There will be live entertainment and activities for kids. Donations can also be made through the website: www.northtexasgivingday.org.
11-1 p.m.
Transfer students are encouraged to come to the transfer mixer at Willis Library forum. Meet other transfer students and make new friends through the provided games. If nothing else, head over for the free food.
Friday
6:30 p.m.
Listen to live music at the Oaktopia Fest on the Square. It starts Friday and continues all day Saturday. Many bands will play, including The Unmarked Graves, Heavy Baby Sea Slugs, Greenhouse, Dome Dwellers, and King Pap. Take part in the team-drinking contest, have a good laugh with the comedy acts and eat from the food trucks. Tickets are $30 for both days or $25 for Saturday. 7-9:15 p.m.
Come out to the Mean Green Soccer Complex to watch North Texas take on Gonzaga. Cheer on the team and, as always, wear green to show school spirit. Tickets are $5 and can be bought at the game. Admission is free with a student ID.
Saturday
2:30 p.m.
North Texas Mean Green football team will play the Nicholls State Colonels. Come out to Apogee Stadium and support the football team. The next couple of games are out of town, so if you haven’t made it to a game yet, come on out to this one. Don’t forget, if you and your family are registered for family weekend, you get tickets. Student tickets are free with a student ID.
All Day
The 16th annual Denton Blues Fest is here. Join the community at Quakertown Park on Saturday and Sunday for a free and festive time as you listen to the blues. Denise LaSalle, Texas Slim and Joe Louis Walker are a few people who will be there, including local talent.
Sunday
1-3:15 p.m.
The North Texas soccer team will play Texas Christian University. Join in the fun and excitement to cheer on the soccer team. Admission is free with a student ID.
Monday
All Day
If you still don’t like a class, you have one last chance to drop it. This is the last day to get a 25 percent refund or any refund at all.
