I was able to chat with Cy Brown, the sports editor of the University of Georgia’s student paper The Red and Black. I answered some questions for him here and he did the same below, in preparation for Saturday’s match-up between the two football squads.

1) This is a match-up between the 9th ranked team in the country and a mid-major school who went 4-8 last year. There can’t be too much concern about the game, right?

The North Texas game is an afterthought in many fans’ minds. Everyone is looking forward to the game with LSU the weekend after North Texas. I’m sure the team is taking all the necessary preparations so as to avoid a slip up. However, there isn’t much concern. Fans expect Georgia to roll through North Texas fairly easily.

2) People have said the Georgia defense is somewhat suspect this year. Will the UNT offense be able to put up some points?

Georgia is extremely young in its secondary. Freshman cornerback Brendan Langley was abused by Connor Shaw and South Carolina last week. That being said, regardless of its inexperience, the UGA defense is supremely talented. Expect North Texas to score some touchdowns, but not many.

3) Who are the key players for Georgia that Mean Green fans whose names UNT will be hearing a lot on Saturday?

The obvious answers are quarterback Aaron Murray and tailback Todd Gurley, Georgia’s two Heisman hopefuls. Aside from them, receiver Justin Scott-Wesley is establishing himself as Georgia’s deep threat. Defensively, linebacker Jordan Jenkins has yet to record a sack this season, but don’t expect that to last long. Talent-wise, Jenkins is the best player on Georgia’s defense and he will begin proving it soon.

4) Your prediction.

UGA 45, UNT 17. North Texas will be able to put some points up, but Georgia’s offense will ultimately prove too potent. The game could be close at halftime, but that won’t stretch too far into the second.
