Check out this section for several observations in blog form, the day after the big game(s). This new feature, titled the Press Box, will contain analysis and opinionated remarks from an NT Daily sports writer.

  • Eight hours on the road, but I made it to Louisiana Tech University for the game. It’s great to see a full section and a half filled up with loud, vocal fans wearing green. I’ve never been to an away game and the attendance was a pleasant surprise.
  • What a huge turnaround in those final four minutes of the first half. Senior quarterback Derek Thompson may have underthrown Chancellor a little bit, but do not ignore the play he made with his feet to avoid the La. Tech defenders.  His throwing ability hasn’t really changed from last year, but he’s much more mobile in the pocket than in the past.
  • La. Tech brought a crowd of 20,317 for its homecoming game and the stadium had plenty of energy early on. But it’s a satisfying feeling to see the opposing crowd slowly thin when the Mean Green took and held the lead.
  • Ever since Georgia put 45 points up, the UNT defense has been dominant. It has allowed just three touchdowns and 30 points over the past three games, and La. Tech’s lone touchdown came after a Thompson interception that gave the Bulldogs great field position.
  • The key for next week’s matchup against a University of Southern Mississippi, who has lost 25-straight games, is to get off to a good start. The Mean Green have trailed 7-0 in six of the seven games this season.
