This week’s police blotter: A smoking microwave causes an evacuation at Kerr Hall

Monday, April 8, 3:45 p.m.: A UNT officer contacted a 25-year-old UNT student about the use of a handicap placard. When the student arrived on the scene, he fled, police said. The student was apprehended a block away from the initial scene after resisting arrest. He was taken to the Denton County jail for evading arrest, resisting arrest and had his placard revoked.

April 11, 2:04 a.m.: A nonstudent male was issued a citation for urinating in public in UNT’s lot 55.

9:23 p.m.: UNT police officers arrested several suspects for delivery of a controlled substance, tampering and fabricating physical evidence, possession of a controlled substance and two counts of possession of less than 2 ounces of marijuana. The suspects were taken to the Denton County jail.

April 12, 3:56 a.m.: A fire was reported at Kerr Hall. Students evacuated the building while UNT police officers and the Denton Fire Department searched for the source of the fire. Large amounts of white smoke were coming from a microwave, police said, and it was sparking and smoking before being disconnected.

1:28 p.m.: Counterfeit money was used at the University Union. A police officer responded and confiscated the money and a report was filed.

April 13, 12:26 a.m.: A UNT police officer overheard an audible alarm after a 20-year-old male student had hit the glass of the shop with his fist and set off the alarm. A case report was completed, which will refer the suspect to the Center for Student Rights and Responsibilities.

April 14, 9:46 a.m.: A 20-year-old male nonstudent was violating his trespassing warning by going to Willis Library. He was also wanted by the Denton County Sheriff’s Department. He was taken to the Denton County jail.
