Three more basketball players transfer out of North Texas
Two days after sophomores A.J. Lawson and Khalil Fuller announced their intentions to leave North Texas men’s basketball via transfer, junior guard Allante Holston followed suit.
Head coach Grant McCasland confirmed on Thursday afternoon Holston will transfer.
Holston appeared in 37 of the 38 games for the Mean Green in 2017-2018 and started in 15 of them. He was a staple of North Texas’ defensive flexibility which made him valuable despite his inability to shoot. On the season, Holston averaged 3.1 points and 2.9 rebounds per game on 44.4 percent shooting.
In his career at North Texas, Holston started 34 games.
He was not alone on Thursday, though, as two women’s basketball players announced their transfer from North Texas as well. One being sophomore forward Jada Poland and the other being freshman guard Lauren Holmes.
Poland appeared in 30 of the Mean Green’s 31 games and started three, finishing the year averaging 12.9 minutes per game.
Holmes was one of the breakout stars for head coach Jalie Mitchell’s team as she was selected to the All-Freshman team for Conference USA in her lone season. She finished the year the second leading scorer at 9.0 points per game and 4.7 rebounds per game.
She hit the second most threes on the team with 44 on the year and led the team with 57 steals.
Holmes reportedly wanted to return home to Arkansas to attend to family issues.
