The summer is coming to a close and along with the changing of the leaves, movie studios are putting a halt on blockbusters and gearing up for awards season. There are a plethora of potentially great films in store for moviegoers this fall, so it is difficult to narrow it down, but this list may help to point you in the right direction.
10. “Gravity”
Release Date: October 4th
Director: Alfonso Cuarón
Starring: George Clooney, Sandra Bullock
Why should you be excited? Cuarón has not gotten behind the camera since his mind-bending film “Children of Men,” and although the trailer seems to give a lot of plot away, it is doubtful that Cuarón would show all his cards just yet.
9. “12 Years A Slave”
Release Date: October 18th
Director: Steve McQueen
Starring: Chiwetel Ejofor, Michael Fassbender, Brad Pitt
Why should you be excited? The trailer for “12 Years A Slave” is gripping and tearful. This film has one of the most star-studded casts of the year, including notorious scene-stealers Benedict Cumberbatch (“Star Trek Into Darkness”) and Michael Fassbender (“X-Men: First Class”). Brad Pitt makes an appearance, so this film is sure to be director Steve Mcqueen’s (“Shame”) breakout film.

Why should you be excited? Writer/Director David O. Russell (“The Silver Linings Playbook”) showcases his versatile talents yet again. “American Hustle” looks sexy, funny and stylistic. “American Hustle” is bound to raise some eyebrows come Oscar season.

Why should you be excited? Author Cormac McCarthy has been the subject of a large amount of attention over the past decade with the adaptations of his popular novels “No Country For Old Men” and “The Road” becoming critically-acclaimed films, and with the addition of director Ridley Scott (“Prometheus”) to the mix this duo are surely make a great team.

Why should you be excited? Clooney and company take a familiar film topic in World War II and put a semi-comedic spin on it with a twist of a heist film that looks intriguing and doesn’t seem to take itself too seriously.

Why should you be excited? The directorial debut from multi-hyphenate star Joseph Gordon-Levitt made its debut at film festivals across the country the first part of the year to rave reviews. As it makes its way to a nationwide release buzz for the film is growing and more people are getting excited to see what Gordon-Levitt has in store.
