Lecrae Moore, an alumnus of UNT, won a Grammy for Best Gospel Album Sunday for his album titled “Gravity.” Moore is a Christian hip-hop musician who received a degree in applied arts and sciences UNT in 2002.

Moore was born and raised in the south side of Houston, and was drawn into rapping as a way of expression.

When Moore was 19 years old, he attended a conference that changed the way he viewed his own faith. He then printed his testimony and distributed it across the UNT campus, according to his biography.

Five years later, he teamed up with Ben Washer, a friend he met at a youth ministry, to found Reach Records with hopes of sharing the Gospel of Christ beyond his local context, according to the Reach Records website.

Moore isn’t a stranger to the Grammy Awards, either. In 2010, he was nominated for his album “Rehab” under the Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album. He is also the winner of multiple Dove Awards, awards handed out to Christian artists.

Moore also performed at the Super Bowl Gospel Concert in New Orleans last week.

He joins other alumni Brave Combo, Don Henley, Meat Loaf, Norah Jones and Roy Orbison who have won a Grammy Award.
