The UNT track and field athletes senior distance runner Josephine Adams and junior sprinter Clint Collins both broke school records over the weekend at the Iowa State Open.

Adams shattered her second school record of the year in the 3,000-meter run.

“It’s a little bonus for me to have two records,” Adams said. “I felt a little bit of pressure on me because coach told me the school record should be ours but I’m over the hill with the time.”

Adams’ run puts her at the top of the Sun Belt Conference, where she leads by almost 30 seconds. Adams finished second overall, but she feels that using a different run strategy is what put her in the record books once again.

“The race set off quite quick, so I settled in the back but I felt really good throughout the race,” Adams said. “I tried to lead the race with 500-meters to go but unfortunately I died a bit but I’m over the moon with that time.”

With her performance, Adams does not steal all of the glory from this weekend. Collins also put on a fantastic individual performance as he rewrote his own school record in the 400-meter dash. With a time of 46:50, Collins beat his own record by almost a second.

“Last weekend I tripped a little coming out my break, so this weekend I had that mindset that I’m going to get my record,” Collins said.

Like Adams and others, Collins holds first place in the SBC and will more than likely take a week off to rest. Trying to stay focused and prepared is what he believes is the key behind the UNT success.

“Knowing everyone personally, I can say that is two things we all have in common,” Collins said. “All of us are dedicated.”

UNT will travel to Oklahoma for the second time this season for the Oklahoma Invitational this week. Senior multi athlete Chelsea Hermes said she likes what she is seeing from her teammates.

“We didn’t have a lot of people there this weekend, but the one’s we did have really showed out,” she said. “It makes UNT look good.”

If you had done any research at all you would know that 3 records were broken, not just 2. Pick up your game
