Members of UNT Student Investment Group won the university a $20,000 prize for its second-place finish in TD Ameritrade’s Think or Swim challenge last month. Each of the four members will receive $2,000 and an Apple iPad Mini 3.
The group, named SoSig, beat 476 teams by growing its virtual stock portfolio by 129 percent, creating a final portfolio value of about $1.1 million at the end of the four-week trading period.
This was the second year a team from UNT has placed in the competition, with last year’s team winning the first-place $500,000 cash prize.
Team SoSig consisted finance senior Dylan Barnard, decision science senior Kshitij Menon, accounting senior Edward Mun and economics Master’s candidate Paul Ucheoma. Another UNT group, The Notorious S.I.G., came in fourth place at the competition, where 13 other UNT teams also attended.
