The atmosphere was celebratory for the Mean Green volleyball seniors on Sunday as the UNT volleyball team beat the University of Texas at El Paso in the final home game of the season.

The Mean Green (16-12, 8-4) won in straight sets (25-16, 25-21, 25-21) and head coach Andrew Palileo attributed much of the success to freshman setter Amy Henard.

“Amy ran a good show, we hit over .300 and that’s always attributed to the setter. She just followed the game plan,” Palileo said.

The Mean Green held UTEP (13-11, 6-6) to a .036 attack percentage in the first set while they hit .323. It was a similar to the performance the Mean Green showed when they beat UTEP earlier in the season at the UT-Arlington Invitational, in which the team won in three sets as well.

“It was about them making adjustments and raising their level and us just trying to hang in there and follow the game plan,” Palileo said.

The Mean Green was led offensively by senior outside hitter Courtney Windham, playing her last game at home. She had 12 kills and four blocks for the match.

“It’s my senior year and I want to go out with a bang,” Windham said. “We just want to keep winning — that’s what everyone wants.”

The rest of the team also chipped in as junior outside hitter Analisse Shannon put up 10 kill, senior middle blocker Karissa Flack added 10 kills and sophomore outside hitter Carnae Dillard had nine kills and 10 digs.

UNT moved closer to securing a first-round bye in the Conference USA tournament. The team is tied with Marshall University but needs the Thundering Herd to lose since it holds the head-to-head tiebreaker with a win against UNT earlier this season.

The seniors reflected on the last game at UNT.

“I am going to miss them, they are like family to me,” Flack said. “I am happy and sad at the same time.”

The Mean Green travels to play Florida Atlantic University on Friday and Florida International University on Sunday for the team’s final game of the season.
