After a season-opening win, the Mean Green struggled on offense in a 67-48 loss to nationally ranked No. 13 Texas A&M University team at home on Monday.
“Their size and athletic ability bothered us out there tonight,” head coach Mike Petersen said.
But despite the loss, Petersen said he’s confident his team will recover.
“We’ll be fine,” Petersen said. “We’ll just watch film tomorrow and get back to work.”
The Mean Green struggled from the field by only shooting 32 percent, as did senior guard Laura McCoy who shot 3-9 from the field and only added nine points.
Being one of the leaders of the team, McCoy said that her experience can help the team recover from a tough loss.
“We just have to stay positive and make sure we forget about the loss,” McCoy said. “We can think about it tonight, but tomorrow we have to get ready for our next game.”
Junior forward Briesha Wynn led the team in scoring with 13 points and also added 7 rebounds, but said she could have helped her team by getting better shots.
“I think passing up good shots to get great shots could help us,” Wynn said.
The Mean Green came out aggressive in the second half but struggled to contain Aggie post players. Junior forward Achiri Ade had 14 points and eight rebounds while senior center Karla Giblert added 12 points and seven boards.
UNT has not been successful in the past against the Aggies, losing the last five match-ups and having an all-time record of 4-13.
The Mean Green is back in action on Wednesday at the University of Houston.
