UNT’s Syndicate hosts arcade day for students

Video game enthusiasts from all decades have a chance to unite for their favorite games at Arcade Day on Jan. 28 in front of Sage Hall.
Hosted by the UNT Syndicate, there will be a game trailer with old- and new-school game systems from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. near the Food Pavilion, and it is open to the public.
“This is just some fun for students to stop by and take their minds off of class,” Syndicate member and anthropology junior Emma Carnes said. “We want students to remember that school is not just all work, even though studying is important.”
UNT Syndicate member and marketing senior Adrian Peña said that he expects a diverse group of students to attend because of the large number of students who attended previous Arcade Days.
“We’ve got old school arcade games like Pac-Man and all types of consoles like PS3, Xbox 360 and we’ve also got Wii,” Peña said. “Last year, there were people who picked up “Guitar Hero” really quick. The shooter games were also very popular, like “Halo”.”
Peña said the event was held in the University Union in previous years, but is now moving to Sage because of the construction.
The Syndicate was a game room in the Union that students could use to take breaks in between classes. Now, the Syndicate is located in Stovall 170 with the University Program Council. Even though the Syndicate and UPC are located in the same room, they are different programs.
“This year we were fortunate enough to get a game trailer,” Syndicate member and biology sophomore Josephine Sinamano said. “We are going to be trying that out to see if students like it until we move back into the Union.”
