The UNT volleyball team will face the University of Texas at Arlington in their first home game of the 2013 season this Tuesday.
“[We’re] very excited to be back at home,” senior libero Shelby Tamura said. “It’s exciting to play in front of our home crowd that supported us so much last season.”
Over the weekend, the Mean Green (1-2) picked up a win over Albany University (0-3), but lost against No. 12 ranked University of California-Los Angeles (3-0) and tournament host Loyola-Marymount University (2-1).
Last season, the Mean Green went to UTA’s College Park Center and won in a thriller, beating the Mavericks in a five game set. But even with last year’s win, UNT trails the all-time series 53-7.
Senior middle blocker Courtney Windham played great in the game, notching 20 kills and six blocks, including a solo block to end the final set. She said the team just needed to work on its evenness.
“We need to improve on our consistency,” Windham said. “We need to work on the running plays that we learn.”
After the Tuesday match with UT Arlington, the Mean Green will host the North Texas Invitational Friday and Saturday (Sept. 6 to 7). The tournament includes: Prairie View A&M University, University of Utah, Northwestern State University, and Texas State University.
The game is Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Mean Green Volleyball Complex.
