The North Texas volleyball team continued its hot streak late in the Conference USA season and recorded its 12th straight win after knocking off Louisiana Tech in straight sets (25-21, 25-19, 25-21) Sunday afternoon in Ruston, Louisiana.

The Mean Green made quick work of La. Tech, recording their second consecutive sweep over a conference opponent. North Texas clinched at least the second seed in the conference tournament and still has room to build on that mark with two games left to play.

Senior Amanda Chamberlain, who ranks No. 2 in the country in hitting percentage (.475), led the way with a match-high 18 kills.

“We officially put ourselves in a position to do something big this season,” Chamberlain told MeanGreenSports.com. “That’s what we were focused most on.”

North Texas took a commanding two-set lead over the Lady Techsters after freshman Valerie Valerian recorded two of the final four points for the Mean Green. She finished with eight kills, adding five digs and three blocks.

The Mean Green closed things out in the third set with back-to-back kills from Chamberlain and freshman Barbara Teakell. While each set was close, North Texas did what it needed to in order to set up a massive game against Western Kentucky later this week.

The Mean Green host the Lady Hilltoppers (27-2, 13-0) Thursday at the Mean Green Volleyball Conference with a chance to move into first place in C-USA – a win over WKU followed by a victory against Middle Tennessee State University Saturday would clinch the C-USA regular-season championship.

“We’ve talked all season about opportunities,” head coach Andrew Palileo told MeanGreenSports.com. “And one of those was putting ourselves in position to win the regular season championship. Now we’ll have a chance to do that Thursday.”

Next up: North Texas hosts C-USA leader WKU at 6 p.m. Thursday.
