Marshall (14-9, 8-2 Conference USA) held North Texas (11-11, 4-6 C-USA) under 10 points in both the first and fourth quarters in route to a 67-55 victory over the Mean Green on Thursday night.

Senior Grace Goodhart finished with a team-high 14 points and Trena Mims added 13 for the Mean Green.

Heading into the game, North Texas was looking for their top scorers to show up in a big way on the offensive end. Unfortunately for North Texas, that was not the case as Terriell Bradley and Anisha George went a combined 5-of-22 from the floor and 12 points.

At the beginning of the second quarter, Marshall scored on a fast break to put the Thundering Herd up 20-9.

The Mean Green quickly responded with a 14-5 run to close the Marshall lead to two points midway through the second quarter. However, Marshall finished the half with eight consecutive points to head into the break with a 36-26 lead.

“I thought we got off to a bad start,” head coach Jalie Mitchell said. Their transition buckets allowed them to keep the lead and the slow start hurt. We just have to do better.”

North Texas scored 20 points in the third quarter and went into the final 10 minutes down by eight points.

A Grace Goodhart three-pointer put the Mean Green down 56-51 with 8:00 remaining, but that would be the last field goal North Texas would make in a tough road environment in Huntington, West Virginia.

UP NEXT: The Mean Green will play at Western Kentucky (14-10, 8-2 C-USA) at 2 p.m. on Feb. 9.
