The North Texas women’s basketball team (17-15, 7-9 Conference USA) defeated the Utah State Aggies (17-16, 10-8 Mountain West) by a score of 56-54 in their second postseason win in program history. Senior guard Terriell Bradley tallied 16 points, two steals, and two assists tonight, along with breaking Jalie Mitchell’s career free throw record.

The Mean Green went into halftime down 34-33, but turned around and outscored the Aggies 23-20 in the second half to secure the two-point victory.

Utah State did not score in the last five minutes of the game and North Texas did not score in the last three minutes of the game. Both teams scored in the single digits in the fourth quarter. The final points were scored by sophomore forward Deja Terrell with 3:31 remaining in the 4th.

Terrell came off the bench and put up ten points, four rebounds and a steal, after junior center Anisha George played a total of six minutes due to fouls.

“I felt like I had to play a bigger role especially with Anisha being in foul trouble,” Terrell said.

The Mean Green defense held the Aggies to one double-digit scorer, junior Shannon Dufficy, who scored 19 points.

“To have only one of their players in double digits was a big win defensively,” Mitchell said.

This is the second time the Mean Green have played Utah State this season after losing their first matchup 57-41. The win over the Aggies gives the Mean Green their second postseason win in program history.

“I definitely see us winning the WBI,” sophomore point guard Trena Mims said.

UP NEXT: North Texas will play in the third round of the Women’s Basketball Invitational against the North Alabama Lions (21-8, 10-6 Atlantic Sun) on March 29 at 7 p.m.
