North Texas women’s golf began spring season with room for improvement after finishing tied for 12th place at the All There August Challenge in New Braunfels, Texas.
Junior Eji Kwon led the Mean Green once again with a strong final round of 74 to secure a 36th place finish. Kwon’s final round was a roller coaster with just 8 pars separating a round filled with birdies and bogeys.
In addition to Kwon, sophomore Nyca Khaw and freshman Samantha Huang improved in each round of the tournament, posting their best scores on the final day. Khaw finished in 49th place after posting a 76 in the third round while Huang finished 62nd after a final round of 78.
Freshman Kalli Jennings and senior Alli Christian dropped to 70th and 71st after posting rounds in the 80s.
The final round performances elevated the Mean Green two spots to a 12th place tie with the University of Louisiana at Monroe and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley.
Sam Houston State University won the tournament by five strokes after Middle Tennessee State University squandered away a four-stroke lead going into the final round.
The Mean Green will get another shot to prove itself at the Islander Spring Classic from Feb. 23-24.
