After a rough start in the fall season, the Mean Green is ready to show its fans what it is capable of in its first event of the year at the Jim West Challenge in Blanco, Texas.

The Mean Green has a young team consisting of three juniors, one sophomore and two freshmen. Head coach Jeff Mitchell said it has been a long time since he had a team without a senior influence.

The Mean Green will send juniors Chaslyn Chrismer and Taylor Kilpone, sophomore McKenzie Ralston and freshmen Keegan Moore and Georgina Mundy to the event.

“I look for Chrismer and Ralston to bring a lot of leadership to the team this spring,” Mitchell said. “They have been preparing diligently and I am sure it will show.”

The field will consist of 12 teams including Sun Belt Conference foes Middle Tennessee State University, Western Kentucky University, Arkansas State University and the University of Louisiana-Monroe along with No. 53 East Tennessee State University and host No. 39 Texas State University.

“I am ready to show what we can do,” Moore said. “We are putting the past behind us and moving forward.”

So far the Mean Green’s best finish this season was seventh place in the Wolverine Invitational in September, the first event of the season.

“We are better than what our record shows,” Kilpone said.  “The hard work we are putting in will show up on the score card.”

This will be the first time that the team has seen the Vaaler Creek golf course in Blanco, but its expectations are high.  The team will have a practice round on Saturday and will play two rounds on Sunday followed by the final round on Monday.
